Blood Clot From Coronary Angiogram

A heart attack is mainly caused due to the block in the coronary arteries. The blockade stops the blood and oxygen to flow freely in and out of the heart. Blocking of the heart is often a gradual process and it happens over a period of time due to an underlying problem. The chest pain in such a case typically starts when the person is physically engaged.

There are some medications that are used as treatment in the initial stages.

There is no scan or ECG which can explain the condition or show the severity of the block. To know exactly where the block is the test procedure has to be invasive. There is one procedure which involves passing a tube into the artery and viewing the block and is called the coronary angiogram. It is not a treatment but it is a kind of test. While performing the test the doctors use needles and catheters. In some extreme cases stents are placed and to open the blockages. The artery is inflated like a balloon using a high pressure and the procedure is called coronary balloon angioplasty.

The procedure has been considered a safe one over all. Some people believe that an angiogram cans cause a blood clot in the artery. However, a blood clot will occur only if there is an underlying problem with the hemostasis function. In such cases, the angiogram could have caused it. The complications with the procedure are anxiety in the patient and a bit of discomfort in the area where the catheter is introduced.
