The exact treatment for coronary heart disease has not been discovered yet. There are several therapies that could fight the effects of atherosclerosis. Until today, coronary stents have been very effective in treating people who are aged and also at a higher risk of developing the coronary artery disease. |
Coronary stents help to open up the blocked arteries and increase the blood flow to the heart. It is the best alternative used by cardiologists against CABG or the coronary artery bypass surgery, which is much more risky for patients. For patients, who are at a higher risk due to the bypass surgery, using stents or angiogram is a much better and safer option.
Costs wise also coronary stents prove to be a much cheaper option. The stents area percutaneous coronary intervention process which poses no health risks for patients. Because of its low costs and safety the other invasive procedures like open heart surgeries are clearly ruled out in most cases. The complications after a stent procedure was much lesser then compare to open heart surgeries. If a patient is at a high risk of having an ischemic attack, then probably the CABG would be the best option.
Different patients have different conditions. Some people suffer from multivessel diseases. However, even for these people the stents have proven to be an easy and non invasive way of reducing the pain suffered due to myocardial refraction. Also, the procedure has proven to be more effective than the medications to relieve patients off chest pain.
