Nearly 80 percent of the heart attacks that occur in people are due to coronary artery disease or CAD. A heart attack of this form is called a coronary heart attack. What exactly causes a coronary heart attack? |
It is often a result of plaque or cholesterol collecting in the arteries over a period of time. The plaque clogs the arteries so badly that blood and oxygen stop flowing freely to the heart. The heart muscles experience a shortage of blood and oxygen as a result. This leads to chest pains. Eventually the plaque ends up blocking the arteries completely and leading to a coronary heart attack.
Blood is the vital fluid that carries oxygen to all the parts of the body. So, it is very important that the heart receives a good supply of blood to function normally. Also, the heart muscles get damaged and start dying if it does not receive blood and oxygen continuously.
There are several reasons for the plaque to collect in the arteries. One of the most common reasons is unhealthy and oily food, and the lack of exercise. The risks pf coronary heart disease is higher in people who are obese. It has been found that nearly 80 percent of people who die from heart attacks are obese. So, obesity is the single biggest factor for heart failures. Also, some habits like smoking or drinking too much alcohol; having too much stress and being depressed can lead to heart attacks. Overall very few people suffer a coronary heart attack as a result of a congenital factor.
