Critical care unit in hospitals are meant to provide intensive care to people who need it. Usually people whose life is threatened or are in a very delicate situation would need this kind of treatment. A critical care unit uses different type of equipment, therapy and drugs to treat the patient. |
Mostly the usage of these equipment or the drugs is mainly targeted for the speedy recovery or stabilizing of the patient’s condition. The critical care nurses are well versed with the functionalities of the drugs they are using. Usually they have an easy reference chart with standard instructions on the usage of drugs. These charts contain instruction tables for the drugs and they also indicate the specific clinical situations under which they have to be used.
Before using the drug, the nurse evaluates the toxicity and compatibility of the drug based on the clinical chart for that patient. These drug tables are available based on the section of the intensive care unit. Cardiology, neurology, neonatal and psychiatry use a different table based on the treatment being given. However, the main idea of this therapy or the drug is only to stabilize the patient’s condition and prevent them from dying. They are not used as a primary method of treatment. Once the patient recovers, he or she is discharged from the intensive care unit. Only then the treatment for the patient starts. While a patient in the intensive care unit they are being kept alive by close watch and also by using complicated medications.More Articles :
