How Much Is Spent On Cancer Research ?

Cancer is known to be the second killer next to heart disease in the United States.  Even with the advancement of technology, scientists are still not able to find a way to cure this type of disease over the years.

However, there are medications formulated that kills cancer cells upon early diagnosis but if it reaches the dangerous stage, there is no cure for it.  The amount of money that has been spent on cancer research is unaccountable.  Many companies have contributed to cancer institutions and a lot of people as well have donated money for cancer research.

The ACS or American Cancer Society alone has spent more than two billion dollars just to find a cure for cancer.  NCI as well spent five to six million dollars trying to formulate cancer treatment today.  In the year 2008, NCI was approved to spend 4.83 billion dollars.  In the year 2007, it was approved with a budget of 4.79 billion dollars and in the year 2006, its budget is worth 4.75 billion dollars.

Voluntary organizations, industries, private institutions and other governmental bodies have also spent big amount of money for cancer research.  The White House also released six billion dollars for the National Institutes of Health as a support of their cancer research.  Another budget of seven billion dollars is also provided for the National Science Foundation.  This foundation supports early career researchers and graduate research fellowships and also educates technicians in high tech areas with the hope of formulating a research that could lead to the invention of radical new technologies that may cure cancer.
