Melanoma is a skin condition that affects the outer layer of the skin mostly. There are four types of melanoma cancers that have been identified until today. Most of them spread on the outer layer of the skin first. |
This could take several months, and sometimes more than a few years.Very few people are diagnosed with cancer at stage one. Most people find out that they have cancer only after it has progressed to stage II or Stage III. In stage I, the melanoma would have just started affecting the localized cells and the surrounding skin. It may look like a blemished spot with uneven coloring. There is one type of melanoma which looks like a boil in the beginning but it is capable of progressing very fast and spreading inside the body very rapidly. However, it is the most uncommon type to occur.
Melanoma can be diagnosed only after a biopsy test. A sample of the skin around the discolored skin is taken to examine. By looking at the cancer cells one can determine at what stage the cancer is. If the cell growth seems to be rapid, then it means that the cancer is at an advanced stage like stage III or stage IV. This process is called staging of cancer. When the cancer has been diagnosed at stage I, it is quite curable. A person should consider them lucky because the cancer can be cured 90 percent unless there is some other complication. The cancerous skin is simply removed.
