ARMD or Age Related Macular Degenerative disease is the primary cause of vision forfeiture mostly in people older than 65. |
This type of eye disease may cause central vision loss. It is estimated to affect 500,000 people each year, worldwide.
Its symptoms are:
If you have any of these symptoms, it is essential to have a medical check-up right away. Regular eye check-up is indeed the best weapon against this type of disease. The Duke Eye Center’s researchers have formulated a surgical procedure which they believe gives hope to patients suffering from this type of disease. However, they have stressed out that the surgical procedure only helps in the restoration of central vision and is not an assurance to cure any of the degenerative diseases of the eyes. This surgical procedure is called MT360. Here, a two stage surgery takes place. First, the retina is rotated internally to shift the problematic macula to a healthy area. Next is eye rotation. MT360 had been used by patients having vision loss due to AMD. The researchers of MT360 have proved that this is definitely a good option for patients who are suffering from constant vision loss even if previous treatments are taken. This procedure recapture a patient’s reading foresight. It may not be a cure, but it’s a big help indeed.
