Blepharitis is a condition of the eye due to the inflammation of the eyelid. As a result, the eyelids become red, thick and scaly. This condition is because of either of the two bacteria: Staphylococcus epidermidis and seborrheic dermatitis or it could be a combination of these two bacteria. Symptoms are burning, itching and flaking of the lids. As a remedy, hot compress should be applied to the affected area and eyelid should be scrubbed as well. Antibiotics could also be prescribed by doctors of condition persists.
Our eyelids can also be infected with either of the crab louse or the head louse. Its symptoms are similar to that of blepharitis. This is very common to children. Non-medicated ointment or petrolatum should be put on the eyelid because this quashes the lice eggs.
Contact dermatitis is an infection of the skin which causes intense itching of the eyelid, redness of the eyelid, scaling and swelling. The use of new products such as soap and make up can trigger this. Antihistamines can treat this infection.
Thermal damage is caused by excessive and rampant exposure to ultraviolet rays. To soothe the eye and to give it a relaxing sensation, eye lubricant should be applied.
However, a doctor should be seen after 24 hours if doesn’t give any aid. The irritation of the glands around the eyelid is referred as a sty or hordeolum. This is also caused by bacterias that causes blepharitis.
