Heart disease is an ailment affecting the heart. It is also known as cardiopathy or cardiac disease. |
Coronary heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure, ischemic heart disease, heart rhythm disorders, tachycardia, heart murmurs, rheumatic heart disease, pulmonary heart disease and hypertensive heart disease are among the most common types of heart diseases.
Heart disease is the primary cause of death in Wales, Canada, England and the United States in the year 2007. In the United States alone, it kills a person every 34 seconds.
Heart disease is also a major health enigma for women. Women with other illnesses are most likely distressed with heart attack especially those who are suffering from diabetes.
Studies show that it is the prime cause of death among women and more prospectively it kills black women than white women. One out of ten American women whose age range from 45 to 64 is suffering from any type of heart disease and this soared up from one out of five at the age of 65 which doubles the statistics of those ages 45 to 64.
In 1998, it was reported that there are 459,841 people died from heart attack and 199,154 deaths were presented in the United States, year 1999. On the same year, 16,968 deaths were reported due to high blood pressure or primary hypertension and hypertensive renal disease. Also in year 1999, 529,659 people died from ischemic heart disease, 3,676 people died from rheumatic heart disease and 26,029 people died from hypertensive heart disease. These figures concluded that heart disease is indeed the first reason of death in the year 1999 and 2000.
