Facts About Heart Diseases

It is very important for us to be aware of the facts about heart disease even if we don’t have any.

The main cause of heart disease is the thickening of the coronary artery wall.  Once it was narrowed, it regulates the amount of blood to the heart and worst scenario it blocks the blood all the way.  We all know that blood is very necessary because it supplies oxygen to the heart.

According to the Heart Foundation of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, almost 1 million lives each year were taken due to heart disease and every 33 seconds someone dies because of that.  Even if the number of AIDS and cancers are conglomerated, more people still die because of heart attack.  It is also the number one reason of death among American women however only 13% of women considered it as a health threat.

Man’s lifestyles such as cigarette smoking, alcohol intake, physical inactivity, obesity, serum cholesterol and hypertension are few of the factors that contribute to the formation of heart disease and even other diseases.

The American Heart Association listed several tips to give our heart a healthy diet to lessen the number of heart disease.  These are: eating fruits, vegetables and grain products daily, consuming fats no more than 2 grams, balancing the number of calories we eat according to the number of calories consumed, exercising, limiting the intake of foods that have high calories but lesser nutrients, eating less than 6 grams of sodium daily, not more than one alcoholic drink a day and increasing the amount of omega 3 fatty acids, soluble fiber and monounsaturated fat.

Considering these few tips would surely give us a healthy heart.  Having proper knowledge is the best weapon we have to protect ourselves.  It is a fact that having a healthy lifestyle twinned with appropriate amount of exercise everyday can ward off not just heart diseases but all types of human disease.
