Heart Diseases And Cholesterol

We need cholesterol in our body because it is one of the components of our nerve tissue and spinal cord.

It actually helps fabricate new tissues, isolate nerves and generate hormones.  Aside from the cholesterol that is produced by the liver in our body, we got this from the food we eat such as meat, milk and eggs.  Having too much cholesterol in our body gives us heart disease specifically atherosclerosis.  In this type of heart disease, cholesterol fosters in the walls of our arteries, thus it become narrowed.  Due to the narrowing of our arteries, the flow of blood going to the heart muscle is limited or worst case blocked.  Chest pains are caused by the limited amount of blood and oxygen on the heart.  If our heart is not supplied with these, we may suffer heart attack.

There are two types of cholesterol namely: LDL or the bad cholesterol and HDL or the good cholesterol.

LDL or low-density lipoprotein is the type of cholesterol that causes heart disease due to the clogging of arteries.  It also transports most of the cholesterol in our blood which leads to the formation of cholesterol in the arteries which simply explains why it is termed as bad cholesterol.
On the other hand, HDL or high-density lipoprotein eradicates cholesterol in our blood and helps prevent the formation of fats and because of this, it is called as good cholesterol.

How do we know that we have high cholesterol? A lot of people have no idea that they have high cholesterol.  It is vital for us to find out what is the level of our cholesterol because it helps us lessen the number of deaths caused by heart attack.  It is always best to go to the nearest medical center or hospital and have a blood test.
