How To Prevent Childhood Heart Diseases ?

Because of the high number of patients suffering from heart disease and to the many studies conducted, certain factors were formulated which reduces a person’s chances of getting a heart disease.

In order to prevent childhood heart diseases, one must control the risk factors that often lead to heart diseases.  These are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity and physical inactivity.  A few of these can be treated and some are not but having a vast knowledge of these risk factors is a prominent way to get rid of heart disease.  Starting from early childhood, controlling these risk factors help lessen the development of this disease as an adult.

High blood pressure is the result of the tightening of the arterioles.  Arterioles control the flow of blood in the body and as it tightens, in order to pump blood, the heart has to work rigidly which causes the pressure inside the vessel to grow.  In order to control high blood pressure among children, a healthy body weight must be maintained by the child.  Overweight children and even adults have higher blood pressure compared to those who have regular weights.  It is also very important to limit the physical activity of the child, as well as the amount of salt intake and make them aware about the dangers that will be brought by smoking.

Cholesterol is also another factor that should be prevented.  To reduce this risk, one must undergo plenty of exercise everyday, eat foods less in cholesterol and fat and should not smoke.  Children who were diagnosed of having high cholesterol must undergo a special diet and exercise.

Smoking doesn’t just increase the risk of lung cancer but is also one of the risk factor among heart disease that should be taken into consideration.  At an early age, children should be discouraged from smoking.

Obesity is also a major risk factor.  The primary cause of this is taking in more calories than burning upon exercise and daily rituals. Another risk factor is physical inactivity which also increases the formulation of other risk factors.
