What Causes Heart Diseases ?

Heart disease is caused by a lot of factors.  Knowing that it is the leading cause of death especially in the United States, it is important to know its primary causes.

There are two categories of risk factors that are causes of heart disease namely: major risk factors and contributing risk factors. Major risk factors are factors that increase the risk of heart disease such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and overweight, smoking, physical inactivity, gender, heredity and age.

Contributing risk factors are stress, sex hormones, birth control pills and alcohol.  Researchers have proven why stress affects the heart.  Stressful situation raises the heart rate and blood pressure which also increases the need of oxygen in the heart which bring on chest pain.  Moreover, it also contributes to the possibility of indulging to other risk factors such as over eating for comfort, starting to smoke or smoking more than their normal consumption.
Sex hormones also play a very vital role in heart disease.  Heart disease is very uncommon for women younger than 40 and is very rampant for those whose age ranges from 40 – 65.

Smoking and taking pills at the same time also increases the risk of heart disease especially those older than 35.

Though some risk factors are controllable and not, but eliminating them and proper management of those that are uncontrollable will greatly reduce the risk of heart disease.  Knowing and preventing its causes is not a guarantee of a heart disease free life but at least chances are it could be precluded.
