Hormones are substances that are secreted by the glands of the body. There are several glands like the thyroid gland, pituitary, and adenoids. These glands release the hormones so that hey communicate from one cell to another cell in a specific organ. They act as messengers. For an organ to receive a hormone, it should have the receptor for that particular hormone. |
Hormones play a vital role in the growth and well being of the human body.
Hormonal imbalances can cause several health related problems and also long term conditions. There are many symptoms for hormonal imbalances. They occur when the body is going through a physiological change like menopause for example. When the primary hormones become out of balance then the symptoms become severe.
Every hormone gives out different signals and symptoms. For example, hormones like estrogen and progesterone are related to the female reproductive cycle. When they increase and decrease to abnormal levels they cause several symptoms like hair loss, weight gain and mood swings. Hormones related to sexual organs and reproductive cycles in both men and women have known to effect the functioning of the nervous system. They cause behavior changes and also lead to odd thinking behaviors. People have experienced confusion and also deep emotional thinking when these hormones are at an increased level.
The body has an automatic mechanism which helps the glands to secrete the right amount of hormones. However, when the gland is not functioning properly it may lead to excessive or absence of hormonal secretion.
