The digestive system also works along with the liver, pancreas, gall bladder, and kidneys to complete the digestion process.

The liver and pancreas play a very important role in helping the digestive system complete the digestion process. Other organs that pay a role are nerves and various blood vessels. When we consume foods like fruits, meat and vegetables, they are not in a form that the cells of the body can use. They need to be converted into fat, carbohydrates and proteins or minerals which the body can use. They are further broken down into smaller molecules which the body can recognize.

The digestive system plays other minor roles than only digesting the food. It helps the absorption of calcium into the body. The digestive system also triggers some hormones that affect the nervous system. They also play an important role in the body’s metabolism and promote some hormone secretions like the human growth hormone.
