A neurology resident is a person who studying the subject of neurology. A typical ay for a neurology resident would be busy and an overload of knowledge. Every single day presents its own challenges. Neurology is a vast subject because it deals with the most complicated organ of the body. |
The brain is an extremely complicated organ and it is very difficult to understand its functioning. Among all the studies neurology has the least amount of exposure in spite of the vast research being done on the subject.
Typically a neurology resident comes across several patients in a ward. They will need to prepare the history and observation, and make a presentation on an everyday basis. There would be a wide variety of symptoms to note for each patient. People with rarest form of nervous disorders to common neurological disorders are studied by the resident. During the rounds, the residents would be accompanied by a senior and other batch mates. They are also allowed to visit the psychiatry and neurosurgery wards. It takes several years of observation before a neurology resident can perform a surgery. Brain surgeries are extremely complicated and only a well experienced surgeon would be handling it.
A neurology resident would be involved in studying several neurological aspects like epilepsy, stroke, neuromuscular problems, sclerosis, cancer, pediatric, and ethics also. At the end of the day, the resident is given real time exposure in clinics by interviewing the patients and learning the symptoms. Among all medical sciences neurology is the most difficult.
