Definition Of Neurology

Neurology is the study of the central nervous system and the brain. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the various conditions and diseases affecting these organs in the body. A person who studies and practices neurology is called a neurologist. If the person is also involved in surgeries, then they are called neurosurgeons.

Neurologists also treat stroke patient. Sometimes a patient starts in a cardiac unit and ends up in a neurological ward. The side affects of a stroke could have caused the person to suffer from neurological disorders. Neurologists also treat patients with epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and many other disorders. Apparently none of these diseases or disorders has any cure. The only cure available is disease management.

Neurology mainly focuses on the disorders related to the brain and the nervous system. All the diseases that affect the nerves, muscles and blood vessels of the central nervous system are covered by neurology. A simple headache can actually lead to several neurological complications. Migraines can cause epilepsy or cognitive disorders. The nervous system is an extensive organ with millions of nerves and cells. It is extremely complicated to understand the functioning of the brain. Millions of electrical signals are exchanged every minute and the brain is constantly triggering some or the other reaction in the body.

Neurology has very little knowledge of the brain as compared to its functionality. Until today none of the neurological disorders have any cure. That is mainly because of the lack of knowledge in the subject. The nerves and tissues in the brain are deeply woven and intricate to understand.
